Euro area retail sales up by 0.1% in October

Retail trade in the euro area rose by 0.1% in October, compared to the month prior, while rising 0.3% in the European Union, Eurostat revealed in its report on Wednesday. On an annual basis, the figure declined by 1.2% in the Eurozone and 0.9% in the bloc.

The sales of automotive fuels in the euro area slid by 0.8% and grew by 0.1% in the EU on a monthly basis. Meanwhile, the volume of food, drinks, and tobacco sales fell 1.1% in the Eurozone and 0.8% in the bloc, while sales of non-food products increased 0.8% and 1.0% respectively.

Countries that recorded the largest month-on-month decline in retail sales were France with a negative 1%, and Belgium and Austria with a negative 0.8%. On the other hand, the biggest increases were observed in Croatia and the Netherlands, as their retail sales climbed by 3.1% and 2.4% respectively.
