Euro area's consumer confidence down in September

The consumer confidence indicator recorded in the Eurozone and the European Union registered in September a mildly decrease, the European Commission revealed in its final report published on Thursday. In the euro area, the figure went down by 1.8 percentage points to a negative 17.8, while in the EU, it fell from August's negative 17.1 to negative 18.7.

The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the Eurozone and the entire European Union continued to decrease in September, declining by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous month to 93.3 and 0.4 percentage points to 92.8, respectively. Meanwhile, the Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) rose by 0.5 percentage points month-on-month to 102.7 in the euro area and 0.6 percentage points to 102.4 in the EU.

The commission stressed that "survey respondents became more pessimistic about their household’s past and future financial situation and the expected general economic situation in their country."
