Euro area trade deficit shrinks to €24.6B in June

The Eurozone's deficit in international trade in goods fell to €24.6 billion in June, the Eurostat's first estimate report revealed on Tuesday. Although the reading marks an improvement from May's deficit of €26.3 billion, it still fell short of analysts' expectations. In the same month, the entire European Union (EU27) registered a trade deficit of €34 billion.

Exports of goods from the Eurozone to the rest of the world reached €252.2 billion in June 2022, jumping 20.1% on an annual basis, while imports grew 43.5% in comparison to the same period last year to stand at €276.8 billion. Intra-Eurozone trade increased 24.2% from June 2021 to €236.4 billion in the same month in 2022.

EU27 exports rose 19.4% year-over-year to €224.9 billion in June 2022, while imports landed at €258.9 billion, soaring 48.5% compared to the same period a year prior. Intra-EU trade amounted to €366.6 billion in June 2022, 23% higher compared to the corresponding month in 2021.
