Europe closes higher after US economy news

Major stock market indexes in Europe closed higher on Friday after the United States Senate voted to suspend the debt ceiling, avoiding the country's default. Meanwhile, the US also saw a monthly jump in nonfarm payrolls. The news boosted investor confidence, leading to rises in stock markets around the world, most notably on Wall Street.

The DAX closed 1.32% or 208 points higher as Covestro AG soared by 6.38% at 5:36 pm CET. The FTSE 100 went up by 1.65% or 123 points, with Prudential PLC jumping by 5.96%. The CAC 40 gained 1.95% or 139 points as Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield SE surged by 5.30%. The Eurostoxx 50 grew by 1.61%, with Adidas AG increasing by 5.82%.

The euro lost 0.32% to the dollar at 5:28 pm CET to sell for $1.07283. At the same time, the pound sterling fell by 0.40% against the greenback to change hands for $1.24763.
