Europe closes higher amid Trump's UK visit

Markets in Europe closed in the green on Friday as investors kept an eye on United States President Donald Trump's visit to the United Kingdom where he met the country's Prime Minister Theresa May and is set to meet Queen Elizabeth II later in the day. Trump and May agreed to work on a bilateral free trade deal and to increase military cooperation and demand denuclearization from North Korea.

The FTSE added 0.14% with Micro Focus soaring 4.38%.

The DAX ended 0.43% higher. Linde recorded the best performance as its shares climbed 1.50% after the company announced it is nearing a deal to sell most of its business with industrial gases in North America in order to get its $83 billion merger with Praxair approved.

The CAC 40 rose 0.38%. Michelin led the gains as its stock jumped 2.50%.

The euro traded flat against the dollar to go for 1.1669 at 5:44 pm CET.
