Europe closes higher, euro continues surge

European equities ended trading on Tuesday with significant gains as stocks continued to build on their November gains.

The coronavirus pandemic remained in focus, with investors tracking vaccine developments and plans to inoculate across the globe, hoping the treatments would bring about a speedy recovery in the global economy. Meanwhile, the euro continued to surge, rising 0.97% against the dollar at 5:33 pm CET, to go for 1.20449.

The DAX closed 0.69% in the green as Volkswagen led the gains. The CAC 40 climbed 1.14% in Paris with bank stocks soaring to the top of the chart. The FTSE 100 jumped 1.89%; housebuilding company Taylor Wimpey rallied 7.66% as the best performer in London.
