Europe closes lower as investors await inflation report

European stock exchanges saw slight losses at the end of trading on Monday with markets preparing for the preliminary Eurozone inflation data from May, set to be released on Thursday, June 1. The race to materialize the United States leaders' agreement to avoid a government default and a global economic disaster is also expected to dominate headlines during this week.

The DAX closed with a 0.20% loss as Continental fell by 2.06%. The CAC 40 was down 0.21% at the end of trading as Worldline declined 2.72% and dragged the index down. The EURO STOXX 50 closed 0.40% lower. Adyen, its worst performer, lost 2.04%. There was no trading on the FTSE 100 today as the United Kingdom observed a public holiday.

The euro was down 0.17% compared to the dollar, going for 1.07107 at 5:34 pm CET. The pound was 0.06% higher than the greenback, trading at 1.23535 at the same time.
