Europe extends losses after disappointing data

Major stock markets in Europe all traded lower on Friday after the reports on Germany's fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) and consumer confidence in the Eurozone both showed disheartening results as they missed on analysts' expectations.

The DAX went down by 1.69% or 262 points at 11:18 am CET. At the same time, the FTSE 100 declined by 1.11%. The CAC 40, which opened higher, turned to losses during the session and decreased by 1.24%.

The euro lost 0.07% to the dollar to sell for $1.11355 at 11:19 am CET. At that moment, the pound sterling stood flat against the greenback to go for $1.33759.
