Europe higher premarket on vaccine hopes

Shares on major European stock markets were higher in premarket trade on Tuesday after Moderna announced yesterday that its coronavirus vaccine candidate has had a 94.1% efficacy rate during the phase three trials and that the company planned to seek conditional approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Also, the number of new coronavirus infections continued to decline in France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany.

The DAX increased by 0.89%, while London's FTSE 100 gained 0.70% at 7:39 am CET. The CAC 40 climbed 0.65% at 7:32 am CET.

The euro was 0.25% higher compared to the dollar at 7:39 am CET, trading for 1.19568. The British pound rose by 0.27% against the American currency, going for 1.33641 at the same time.
