Europe lower in premarket as pandemic intensifies

Shares on major European stock markets were lower in premarket trading on Monday as several countries reported a steady increase in COVID-19 numbers. The daily count of coronavirus cases has risen across the UK, France and Russia. British Chancellor Rishi Sunak is expected to unveil this week the business support loan program. In other economic news, the Deutsche Bundesbank is expected to release its monthly report with a detailed analysis of current and future economic conditions.

The DAX fell 0.52% at 7:37 am CET. The FTSE 100 declined 0.91% at the same time. The CAC 40 slipped by 0.57% at 7:41 am CET.

The euro gained 0.21% against the greenback, trading for 1.18642 at 7:39 am CET, while pound sterling increased 0.27% to go for $1.29519 a minute later.
