Europe mostly flat premarket after tanker attacks

European stocks were flat to lower during premarket trade on Friday after yesterday's attack on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman. The tankers, one Norwegian and the other Japanese, caught fire near the coasts of Iran and Fujairah, the United Arab Emirates, which was previously the site of a similar incident. The cause of the fires is currently unknown.

Meanwhile, Brexit was also in the spotlight after former mayor of London and prominent Brexiteer Boris Johnson won the majority of votes in the first round of voting for the Tory leadership.

The DAX was down 0.13%, the CAC 40 declined 0.04%, while the FTSE 100 was 0.05% below the flatline before the start of trading. The euro was flat against the dollar at 8:50 am CET, buying 1.1277.
