Europe opens higher with data, virus in focus

European stock markets opened in the green on Tuesday as investors monitored economic data and the coronavirus pandemic.

On the data front, the United Kingdom's economy shrank by the most since 1979 in the first quarter of 2020. In coronavirus developments, several US states were racing to contain new outbreaks which led governors to pause the reopening of state economies.

The DAX climbed 0.44% in the first minute of trading with embattled payments company Wirecard leading the gains. The CAC 40 rose 0.36% at the start of the session on the Euronext as Airbus jumped over 2%. In London, the FTSE 100 was up 0.14%; Standard Life Aberdeen was the strongest performer.
