Europe opens in red ahead of PMI data

Stocks on the European markets traded lower at the open on Friday, as the investors' focus remained on IHS Markit data releases which will be published later today. German financial services company Allianz SE reported that its revenue in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2019 grew 7% on an annual basis. Meanwhile, the official data recorded that the number of coronavirus cases reached 76,726, while 2,247 people died from the disease so far.

The DAX opened 0.40% lower, with Infineon Technologies AG declining 2.21%. The FTSE 100 kicked off with a loss of 0.51%, as Burberry Group fell 3.65%. The CAC 40 dropped 0.45% at the opening bell. Renault led the losses with a decrease of 3.02%.

Both the euro and the pound traded flat against the dollar, selling for $1.07928 and $1.28891, respectively, at 9:06 am CET.
