Europe opens mixed on Omicron news

Major stock markets in Europe opened mixed on Wednesday, as investors were wary of the recent reporting surrounding the Omicron coronavirus variant. While United States officials noted that the Omicron may not be more severe than the Delta variant, early studies indicated that the vaccine is less effective against Omicron than other variants.

The DAX started the session 0.21% lower, with Hellofresh falling 8.05%. The FTSE 100 was up by 0.07% at the opening bell, led by Sage Group rising 1.51%. The CAC 40 began the day flat.

The euro increased 0.22% against the dollar to trade for $1.12921 at 9:04 am CET, as the pound gained 0.07% on the American currency to change hands for $1.32524 at the same time.
