Europe opens mostly lower after oil tanker attacks

European markets opened in the red on Friday after a positive start earlier in premarket trading as worries following an attack on two tankers in the Gulf of Oman began to weigh on investors. In the latest developments, the crew of one of the ships that was attacked said that it saw "flying objects" prior to the incident. In other news, European Union ministers agreed on a new budget for the Eurozone and several European Central Bank members were due to give speeches later in the day.

The German DAX fell 0.29%, the French CAC 40 dropped 0.23% while London's FTSE 100 decreased 0.30% at 9:15 am CET.

The euro was up 0.06% against the US dollar to go for 1.12821 at 9:13 am CET while the British pound was flat against the greenback to go for 1.26703 at the same time.
