Europe opens mostly lower with data in focus

Major European stock markets opened mostly lower on Friday as various economic reports take center stage in today's sessions. The United Kingdom reported a general increase in retail sales but noted significant drops in certain sectors. Britain, as well as the European Union and Germany, will release their results in manufacturing and service later in the day. Meanwhile, France's Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire predicted the country will have a negative fourth quarter amid the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The DAX traded 0.27% in the red at the opening as Infineon Tech AG fell by 1.37%. The CAC 40 declined by 0.17% with Kering AG decreased by 2.44%. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 stood flat.

The euro went down by 0.16% against the dollar to sell for $1.17992 at 8:57 am CET. At the same time, the pound sterling lost 0.21% to the United States currency to change hands for $1.30542.
