Europe turns to gains as virus fears retreat

Shares on the major stock market indexes in Europe turned to gains after having started Monday's trading session in the negative territory.

Investors shrugged off some of the worries caused by both the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union, and the coronavirus pandemic's second wave, and focused more on the optimistic news regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

The DAX was up by 0.44% at 11:53 am CET, while the FTSE 100 concurrently gained 0.37%. At the same time, in France, the CAC 40 stood flat. The euro advanced 0.19% versus the dollar, selling for 1.19825 at 11:56 am CET, while the pound sterling strengthened 0.20% compared to the greenback, to go for 1.33245 at the same time.
