European firms in China won't be impacted by US deal - Xi

Chinese President Xi Jinping held two separate phone calls with European leaders on Wednesday, during which he claimed that the companies from Europe operating in China will not be impacted negatively after Beijing signed a trade deal with the United States last week.

Speaking to Xi, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was reportedly optimistic regarding the China-US trade deal and commended Beijing for including German firms in its markets. She also reiterated that Huawei will get the same treatment as any other foreign company that applies for the 5G network construction in her country, according to Xinhua.

French President Emmanuel Macron also said that Huawei will not be discriminated against on the same issue. Xi and Macron agreed to expand cooperation in the areas of energy and technology, Xinhua reported.
