European markets open in red on subdued sentiment

Major European stock markets kicked off Wednesday's session in negative territory amid a lack of clear direction and the mostly subdued sentiment. The premarket trading was marked by the news that Germany's industrial production slightly expanded during April.

The CAC 40 lost 0.16% at the opening bell, while the FTSE 100 declined by 0.21%. On the other hand, the Euro Stoxx 50 and the DAX traded flat. Both the euro and the pound declined by 0.17% against the dollar at 8:54 am CET to sell for 1.06741 and 1.24032, respectively.
