Eurozone construction output slides 0.3% in March

Seasonally adjusted production in the Eurozone's construction sector decreased by 0.3% in March compared to the previous month​, according to the preliminary report published by Eurostat on Friday. For the whole of the EU, construction output decreased by 0.7% compared to February. During the previous month, production in construction increased by 3.0% in the euro area and by 2.6% in the EU28.

In the euro area, production in construction during March of 2019 increased 6.3% year-over-year, while it rose 5.8% in the whole bloc during the same timeframe. Within the sector, March data shows that the building construction in the euro area fell by 0.6% while civil engineering rose by 0.4% compared to the previous month. At the same time, civil engineering fell by 0.2% and building construction slid down 0.7% in the EU28 countries.

Largest decrease in construction productivity in March was observed in Slovenia (-6.1%), Hungary (-2.5%), and the United Kingdom (-1.9%), while the Czech Republic (2.4%), Romania (1.8%), and Germany (1.0%) led the bloc in construction output. The monthly percentage change for February 2019 remained at 3.0% in the Eurozone, while it was revised upwards, from 2.3% to 2.6% for the whole Eu.
