Eurozone consumer confidence down slightly in March

The consumer confidence in the euro area (EA20) stood at negative 19.2 points in March, weakening 0.1 points from the figure recorded in the previous month, the European Commission revealed in its preliminary report released on Thursday.

For the entire European Union (EU27), the indicator also lost 0.1 points to land at negative 20.7.

The commission pointed out "consumer confidence remains well below its long-term average" and that, in the survey, "at least 80% of responses were collected before the recent tensions in segments of the US banking sector and the rescue of Credit Suisse."
