Eurozone consumer confidence falls in June

Consumer confidence in the euro area decreased in June, standing at negative 23.6 points, the European Commission revealed in its report published on Wednesday. The figure dropped 2.4 points in comparison to May's figure which stood at 21.1 points. The reading is close to the lowest ever recorded in April 2020, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, the consumer confidence indicator was down by 1.9 points in the entire European Union in June when compared to the previous month, and stood at negative 24 points. The figures confirmed the preliminary report predictions.

The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) decreased by 1.7 points in the European Union to reach 102.5 and dropped by 1 point in the euro area, to stand at 104.0. The Employment Expectations Indicator fell by 1.6 points to 110.6 in the EU, and 1.7 points, coming at 110.9 in the euro area.
