Eurozone consumer confidence improves in April

The Consumer Confidence in the euro area (EA19) was at negative 8.1 points in April, beating expectations, according to the preliminary report issued by the European Commission on Thursday. This is an improvement of 2.7 points when compared to March, where it stood at a negative 10.8.

For the entire European Union (EU27) the preliminary numbers were also up, rising 3.1 points to a negative 9.0.

Both the EA19 and EU27 indicators are now above their long-term averages which are -11.1 and -10.6 respectively.
