Eurozone industrial production down 1.0 % in February

Industrial production in the Euro area (EA19) slid 1.0% on a monthly basis in February, data from Eurostat showed on Wednesday. Compared to the same month last year, it was down 1.6%. Meanwhile, in the whole of the European Union (EU27), production was 0.9% lower month-on-month and 1.1% on a yearly basis.

Compared to January, production of capital goods fell by 1.9% in both the EA19 and EU 27, while the energy decreased 1.1% and 0.7% respectively. Durable consumer goods production was down by 1.1% and 1.0%, intermediate goods by 0.7% and 0.6%. Non-durable consumer goods declined by 0.1% in both the whole bloc and the Eurozone.

The largest monthly decreases were registered in France and Malta, while Hungary and Ireland reported the biggest increases. Versus 2020, production in Malta and Estonia saw the largest drops while it increased the most in Ireland and Lithuania.
