Eurozone inflation drops to 6.9% in March

Inflation in the euro area is expected to be at 6.9% on a yearly basis in March, according to a preliminary report by Eurostat on Friday. The March estimate came in lower than expected and is down 1.6 percentage points compared to the annual inflation in February. Month-on-month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) grew by 0.9%.

Food, alcohol and tobacco are expected to have the highest annual price increase rate in March at 15.4%, followed by non-energy industrial goods at 6.6%, and services at 5%. Energy prices are projected to fall 0.9%. The core CPI, excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, rose by 5.7% year-on-year or 1.2% monthly.
