Eurozone inflation rate at negative 0.3% in Dec

The annual inflation in the Eurozone stood at a negative 0.3% in December for the fourth consecutive month, a report published by the European Union's statistical office Eurostat revealed on Wednesday. In the European Union, the figure stood at 0.3%, up by 0.2% month-on-month but down by 1.3% year-on-year.

The largest contribution to the annual rate in the euro area came from services, with the rate of 0.30%, and by food, alcohol and tobacco with 25%. Meanwhile, non-energy industrial goods and energy made a negative contribution of negative 0.14% and negative 0.68%, respectively.

The lowest rates of negative 2.4%, negative 1.2% and negative 1.0% were recorded in Greece, Slovenia and Ireland, respectively. On the other hand, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic saw the highest annual rise of, respectively, 3.4%, 2.8% and 2.4%. On a monthly level, the inflation increased in ten member states, remained stable in eight, and decreased in nine.
