Eurozone producer prices rise 0.7% in May

Eurozone producer prices rose by less than expected 0.7% in May compared to the previous month, according to a report published by Eurostat on Monday. On an annual basis, the index jumped 36.3%.

Intermediate goods in the euro area saw a rise in industrial producer prices of 1.7%, while non-durable, durable, and capital consumer goods rose by 1.3%, 0.9%, and 0.6%, respectively. On the other hand, the energy sector decreased by 0.2%. Prices in total industry excluding energy climbed by 1.3%.

In the entire European Union, the figure was up 0.8% on a monthly basis and 36.4% compared with May 2021. The highest monthly increases were observed in Finland (5.5%), Estonia, and Lithuania, while on the other hand, the biggest declines were recorded in Ireland (-19.4%), Slovakia, and the Netherlands.
