Eurozone trade surplus expands to €10.9B in April

The Eurozone recorded a €10.9 billion surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in April, making a major increase compared to €2.3 billion registered in the same month last year.

According to Eurostat's preliminary report published on Tuesday, the euro area's goods exports yearly surged 43.2% in April to reach €193.8 billion, while imports soared 37.4% to €182.8 billion. Meanwhile, intra-euro area trade jumped 61.9% to €178.9 billion.

The highest increases in extra-EU exports were seen in Slovakia (120.6%) and Italy (104.6%), while on the other hand, Cyprus (-17.7%) and Ireland (-0.3%) saw the biggest exports declines.
