Eurozone trade surplus up to €23.1B in December

Euro area trade surplus stood at €23.1 billion in December, up 1.1% year-over-year and rising €0.31 billion compared to the prior month. In the whole of the European Union (EU28) the surplus in trade in goods stood grew 0.9% on an annual basis to amount to €23.4 billion.

Eurozone exports of goods in December stood at €186.1 billion, a 4.8% rise versus December last year. On the other hand, the data showed imports increased 1.1% for the same month to €163.0 billion. Intra-euro area trade gained 1.0% in December to stand at €145.5 billion.

Exports for the whole of the EU added 6.2% to €162.7 billion in the last month of 2019 while imports from the rest of the world were up 1.0% to €149.4 billion. In the same period, intra-EU27 trade increased 0.9% to €222.7 billion.
