FAA announces progress on 5G deployment

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed on Friday that an agreement was reached with Verizon and AT&T to allow more aircraft to safely use airports while allowing more towers to deploy 5G services.

"The FAA appreciates the strong communication and collaborative approach with wireless companies, which have provided more precise data about the exact location of wireless transmitters and supported more thorough analysis of how 5G C-band signals interact with sensitive aircraft instruments (…) This will allow wireless carriers to safely power up more towers as they deploy new 5G service in major US markets," read the press release.

Earlier in October, Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. postponed the deployment of a 5G network frequency band due to concerns that it could conflict with aircraft systems. Meanwhile, the FAA has insisted that 78% of the US fleet can fly around 5G facilities.
