Fauci: Mix and match approach for J&J COVID vaccine booster likely

United States Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci stated on Sunday that those who received the Johnson and Johnson coronavirus vaccine will likely be allowed to mix and match vaccine boosters depending on their individual needs.

At the same time, Fauci admitted that the J&J vaccine should have been a two-dose vaccine from the start. Furthermore, he noted that some data suggested that boosting the J&J vaccine with one of the mRNA vaccines would produce more antibodies than a second shot of the J&J vaccine.

Lastly, Fauci asserted that the US Food and Drug Administration will assess all the relevant data before making a formal authorization of the booster shot. Last week, an FDA panel unanimously recommended the use of booster shots for J&J vaccines.
