Fauci voices 'cautious optimism' about COVID-19 vaccine

United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Dr Anthony Fauci said there is "cautious optimism" about developing a vaccine against the coronavirus.

Speaking to CNBC, Fauci noted many companies around the world are working on vaccine candidates and stressed that positive data from Moderna's first vaccine trials is "encouraging." He added that he "can only hope" that more than one successful vaccine will be completed at the same time so that there is more availability worldwide.

The infectious diseases expert earlier said that it is "conceivable" the US will have a COVID-19 vaccine before the end of the year.
