FDA approves Pfizer, Moderna Omicron jabs for kids over 6 months

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized on Thursday the Moderna and the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines targeting the Omicron variant for use in children down to 6 months of age.

"More children now have the opportunity to update their protection against COVID-19 with a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, and we encourage parents and caregivers of those eligible to consider doing so – especially as we head into the holidays and winter months where more time will be spent indoors," FDA Commissioner Robert Califf stated.

The FDA stressed that children up to the age of 5 who received two doses of the Moderna jab, as well as those up to the age of 4 who have received up to two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech jab, can get a booster of the updated Omicron vaccine as their third dose, but pointed out that kids who already got three doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine are not eligible for the updated booster.
