Fed's Waller: Tapering possible in October

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said on Monday he would support a start to tapering of the Fed's asset purchases as early as this October should the next two unemployment reports show sufficient gains.

"I think you could be ready to do an announcement by September. That depends on what the next two jobs reports do. If they come in as strong as the last one, then I think you have made the progress you need. If they don’t, then I think you are probably going to have to push things back a couple of months," Waller told CNBC.

Additionally, he noted that policymakers should "go early and go fast" with reducing the bond purchase program in order to be in a position to raise interest rates next year if needed.
