France considering tighter anti-coronavirus measures - report

The French government is considering introducing tighter restrictions to combat further spread of coronavirus, several media outlets reported on Monday, citing sources close to Hotel Matignon.

In its latest update on the number of infections from COVID-19 in the country published on Sunday, the Health Ministry posted the highest daily rise in cases since the beginning of the pandemic, 52,010. Last week, the total number of infections in France surpassed 1 million.

The government previously announced the introduction of a public state of emergency, starting from October 17. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Jean Castex warned that an overnight curfew would be imposed in certain parts of the country to prevent new spikes in infections.
