France plans to vaccinate 70% population by June

The French government plans to vaccinate around 45 million people against the COVID-19 by June, Les Echos newspaper reported on Thursday, meaning the country would provide immunity to nearly 70% of its population.

The report significantly increased estimates which suggested that between 17 and 27 million people in France would be inoculated within the same period. However, the plan will realize only if the European Medicines Agency (EMA) soon approves all existing coronavirus vaccines.

The jabs already approved by the EMA include those developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, while the AstraZeneca/Oxford shot is expected to be allowed for emergency use by the end of January. Meanwhile, Hungary became the first member of the European Union to approve Russia's Sputnik V earlier today.
