France refuses UK's joint patrols proposal

French Prime Minister Jean Castex (pictured) rejected on Thursday the United Kingdom's offer of joint border patrols as the two countries look for solutions for the ongoing migrant crisis. British Prime Minister made the offer in a letter, which was later slammed by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Castex told Johnson France "cannot accept that British police or soldiers patrol on our coasts. It's a question of sovereignty and I know your government's sensitivity towards respecting the sovereignty of others." According to a report by France 24, Castex also dismissed the possibility of sending migrants back across the English Channel from the UK to France. An anonymous aide stated the idea, floated by Johnson, is "not an option and is not a serious or responsible way of tackling the issue."
