France to start easing lockdown on May 11

France will slowly start lifting its lockdown on May 11, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said on Tuesday. Philippe announced that until June 2 France will be in a monitoring phase.

The prime minister also noted that France will try to increase testing by 700,000 per week and added protective masks will be obligatory on public transport.

France will reopen nurseries and elementary schools on May 12 while high schools will restart on May 18. However, all schools will be implementing measures that will include cutting the number of students per class. However, companies should organize work from home even beyond May 11. Shops and markets will be able to open on that date as well, but restaurants and bars are to remain shut. Additionally, Philippe announced no sporting competitions would be taking place at least until September, including the country's rugby and football leagues.
