French parliament grants initial approval to security bill

The French Parliament gave initial approval on Tuesday to the new security bill criminalizing the sharing of images containing faces of police officers.

Under the draft law, circulating images of on-duty police "with the aim of harming their physical or psychological integrity" could be punishable by up to one year in prison.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex (pictured) claimed that the aim of the new legislation is "not to prevent anyone from filming or broadcasting images that shed a light on a fact or a public event."
