G20: Working to confront global crisis, restore hope

The Group of (G20) is working hard to confront a global crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic and produce policies that will "restore reassurance and hope to everyone around the world," Saudi Arabian King and sitting G20 Chairman Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said in his opening remarks of the organization's 2020 summit.

"G20 countries have taken exceptional measures to support our economies and we must provide support for developing countries in a coordinated manner," King Salman said. "We have provided emergency support to developing countries by suspending debt payments and G20 countries have contributed $21 billion to confront the COVID-19 pandemic."

The king noted the world needed to "reopen our economies and borders to facilitate the movement of trade and people," as well as to "create the conditions for making COVID-19 vaccines available in a fair and affordable way."
