Gentiloni: Factors driving inflation differ in EU, US

European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni reiterated on Tuesday the view that inflation in the euro area will decline "but probably not as soon as we expected, probably in the second part of the year." He added the Commission will publish its updated outlook on February 11.

Gentiloni also warned that "we shouldn't take the EU and the US inflation picture as the same one, because there are different factors pushing it, and the European factors are probably destined to decline, but not so fast as previously expected." He also commented on the fiscal rules reform in the EU, stating that there are no proposals yet, but that there is an "overall awareness of the problem that we have to address," and that ministers from member states are working on compromises.
