German 7-day COVID incidence rate hits fresh record high

The German seven-day COVID-19 incidence rate hit a new record high as it stood at 772.7, according to data compiled by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The incidence rate represents the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases climbed by 135,461 since the last update to reach 8,596,007.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Germany rose by 179 to 116,664.
