German companies' gas consumption declines in July

The business sector's gas consumption in Germany marked a decrease in July this year when compared to the same period of 2021, falling by 21.3% year-on-year, der Spiegel reported on Thursday, citing Klaus Muller, the president of the German Federal Network Agency.

Rising prices and increased production costs, as well as the pressure coming from the country's political elite to reduce gas consumption, have contributed to its drop, Muller noted, while also adding that at this point, during summer, households can do little to help as it is still not the heating season.

The agency also stressed the country is ''on the right track'' when it comes to its current storage levels as more than 80% of its capacity has already been filled.
