German consumer prices down by 0.1% in July

Consumer prices in Germany decreased by 0.1% in July compared to the previous year and met the estimates, according to the report published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Thursday. On a monthly basis, consumer prices slipped 0.5%.

The harmonized index of consumer prices stood flat in the same month confirming provisional results. The figure decreased compared to the previous month by 0.5%.

Goods prices were down by 1.4% year on year, as energy prices increased slightly by 6.7% and food prices rose 1.2% compared to July 2019. Prices of heating oil fell 31.3% and the prices of motor fuels were down by 12.9% compared to the same month last year. However, fruit prices surged 7.8% and meat product prices were up by 5.4%.
