German daily COVID cases hit another record of 21,506

The number of people who tested positive for the COVID-19 in Germany during the day on Thursday landed at 21,506, marking the second day the country posted a record-high number of daily infections, according to The Robert Koch Institute's (RKI) count.

The nation's total rises to 619,089 once the newly registered cases are added, while the cumulative number of fatalities reached 11,096 after health authorities attributed 166 more deaths to the virus in the twenty-four-hour time.

Last week after observing a surge in daily infections, the country imposed a partial lockdown in an effort to avoid overwhelming hospitals and attempt to contain the virus.
