German daily COVID-19 cases hit another record

The daily jump in new coronavirus cases in Germany was at its highest since the start of the pandemic, marking the second day of the country reporting a record daily toll.

The number of people who tested positive for the virus landed at 133,536 taking the nation's total to 8,320,386, according to Robert Koch Institute's (RKI) tally. In the meantime, the cumulative number of fatalities reached a total of 116,315, after health authorities attributed 234 more deaths to the virus.

The country's seven-day COVID-19 incidence rate has also risen by a record 638.8, topping 600 for the first time since the pandemic hit.
