German daily COVID cases hit record 112,323

The daily jump in new coronavirus cases in Germany increased to its highest level since the start of the pandemic, with 112,323 people testing positive since the last update was released, according to Robert Koch Institute's (RKI) tally.

The figure marks the first time the country's daily toll landed above 100,000, taking its total to 8,186,850. The cumulative number of fatalities reached 116,081 in the meantime, with the health authorities confirming another 239 deaths during the day.

The country's seven-day COVID-19 incidence rate, which measures the number of people infected per 100,000, also set a record and landed at 584.4.
