German FM: No EU unity on new Russia sanctions

Germany's Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Friday that he seen no consensus in the European Union on imposing additional sanctions on Russia over its conduct with Ukraine.

The bloc has already imposed a series of sanctions since Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula and the armed conflict in Ukraine started in 2014. Recently, Brussels has been mulling new punitive measures against Moscow, after three Ukrainian ships were shot at, then seized, and their crew transferred detained by Russian authorities at the Kerch Strait that serves as an entrance for ship going from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov.

European Council President Donald Tusk stated earlier that he is "sure" there will be more sanctions on Russia this month.
