German GDP flat in last quarter of 2019

Germany’s gross domestic product (GDP) adjusted for price, season and calendar stood unchanged in the last quarter of 2019 compared to the previous three months, the country's statistical office Destatis said in its report on Tuesday.

Household final consumption expenditure stagnated in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to the report, while general government final consumption expenditure slightly improved. The number of employed people increased by 0.7% to reach 45.5 million, reaching a 30-year high.

At the same time, the price-adjusted German GDP rose 0.3% on a yearly basis and 0.4% after being adjusted for price and calendar. The highest growth rates of over 2% were recorded in the service sector. On the other hand, economic activity in manufacturing led the losses, sinking 4.8%.
