German govt confirms new measures for unvaccinated

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her successor Olaf Scholz announced on Thursday new coronavirus-related restriction measures for people who aren't vaccinated against COVID-19.

In a press briefing, Merkel and Scholz confirmed unvaccinated citizens and those who haven't recovered from the disease won't be able to enter non-essential stores and other public venues. At the same time, nightclubs in places with high infection rates will be closed, while large public events will also receive a limit on attendance.

The German government also provided full support to the wide COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which should go into effect from the end of February if the country's parliament approves the legislation mandating vaccinations.
